Pippo Matino

Born in Portici, Naples, he's considered by the national critics one of the most expert and virtuosos of the electric bass, this is confirmed by his constant presence at the most important music festivals and bass events including at all editions of Eurobassday of Verona, Musikmesse of Frankfurt, Disma Italiano, Bass Player live of New York etc..
Flexible and curios musician, he ranges from jazz , funky, blues to rock and Italian pop music with a strong Mediterranean touch.

After a long rank full of experiences with the most important Neapolitan musicians such as Zurzolo, E.Vitolo, J. Senese, Larry Nocella, Daniele Sepe, etc.. he moved to Rome starting new collaborations and, in the meanwhile, started his soloist career as a leader recording his first album in 1993 produced by Via Veneto "Bassa Tensione", the first of this famous Roman label which was born thanks to the unforgettable Biagio Pagano: we remember the famous "Doctor Mike" and "Bass Song for Napoli" which made the album an icon for many young bass players.
He's been co-leader of the guitarist Rocco Zifarelli and the Cuban drummer Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez of an Italo-Cuban trio and, at the same time, he has been leader of the "ESSENTIAL TEAM" band, composed by several musicians in different times.

Born on July12th 1980. Girolamo took his degree at the DAMS (Arts and Music department), at the Tor Vergata University of Rome; thesis entitled 'synaesthetic paths in jazz'.

He starts studying piano at 6 years old of age. At the age of 14, while he continues his classical studies on the instrument, he discovers his love for jazz after listening to a concert of Carlo Negroni with whom he'll start his jazz studies. During this period, he starts playing around with the 'Disguise', a jazz-fusion band. At 20, he perfects his jazz studies with Gianni Aquilino and Claudio Colasazza. In 2002, he starts attending the Umbria Jazz Clinics organised by the Berkelee University of Boston and gets an 'outstanding musicianship' certificate. That same year, he starts working as a pianist, composer, arranger and computer engineer with WEA spa (World Entertainment Audiovisual) in Rome. In 2003 he's back at the Umbria jazz Clinics where his 'outstanding musicianship' is reconfirmed and where he's chosen by Giovanni Tommaso as the pianist of the 'Umbria Jazz Clinics Award Group' that will perform in December 2003 during the Umbria Jazz Winter Festival hosted in Orvieto.

He perfected his modern jazz comping with Russell Hoffman. He met Gegé Telesforo and started collaborating at the 'dj set Telesforo' with Marcello Surace on drums and Marco Siniscalco on bass. In 2004, 2005 and 2006 he worked at the Celebrate Café in Perugia for the Umbria Jazz Festival. In September 2004, he produced and arranged the album of Fausto Notorius; an Italian songwriter. I the same year, he formed a tribute band to Mingus together with Cosimo Marchese (drums) and Nico Verruccio (bass). In 2006 he started working on his first solo album; a jazz-fusion work in which he collaborated with Nico Gori (clarinet), and Pippo Matino (bass). In the same year he established an independent label, 'Soulnest' together with Barbara Ottaviani (Baby'ra) and Emanuela Ottaviani, former members of BabyraSoul. 'Soulnest' produces its first single; 'Miss?orMissing' composed and arranged by Peter and Baby'ra. In 2006 to 2007 he played in many festivals around Italy with the Pippo Matino New Quartet, with Claudio Romano (drums) and Paolo Recchia (sax). He also played with Roberto Schiano and Giulio Martino. In July 2007 his album titled "253" was released, which featured Pippo Matino (bass), Giovanni Imparato (perc.) Nico Gori (clarinet), Baby'ra (voice) and Emanuela Ottaviani (voice). In 2007, he featured on Pippo Matino's latest album. The trio Matino,DeGirolamo and Romano start touring with a tribute band to Joe Zawinul, which comprises of Emanuele Cisi (sax) and Amit Chatterijee (guitar).

Born in 1966. His passion for music encouraged him to study drums, in the beginning as a self-taught and afterwards attending M. Valter Scotti's class. His multifaceted drumming style and his curiosity to explore different music styles allowed him to team up and to cooperate with Italian and International artists of all music styles.
